Please check the Ballance HTML help (installed with the game) first,
where you also find some hints for optimizing the game´s
performance. And please check if your computer has the minimum system requirements.
Ballance on laptops/ AMD processors ("game runs too fast"):
Unfortunately we discovered a bug that
occurs on the latest generation of laptops which are
equipped with a "two step technology". Some AMD processors seem to use the same technology.
On
these computers the processor is able to change its
frequency at runtime (what our engine doesn´t realize) making everything in the game run
significantly faster - actually double as fast as intended. To fix this problem you can download and install a little free tool called "SpeedSwitchXP". With this tool you can force the processor to run with fixed (= full) capacity all the time.
Download SpeedSwitchXP from: www.freedownloads.be
Dual core processors ("game runs jerky "):
Ballance can have problems with the latest generation of dual core processors. We discovered this on an AMD processor. AMD offers an
"AMD Dual-Core Optimizer" on their webpage:
www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources
This driver should solve the problem.
Alternatively you can first start Ballance, then open the task manager and right-click on the "player.exe" process and choose "set affinity". Then you deactivate one of the two processors so that Ballance runs only on one processor. This is not a permanent setting. So you have to do it everytime you start the game.
Game runs jerky under XP:
If you encounter a "jerky performance"
under Windows XP we recommend to run the game in the Windows95 or Windows98/ME compatibility mode. I runs much smoother in the compatibility mode!
- just go to the directory where the game is installed
- right-click on the "Startup.exe" and click on "Properties"
- choose the "Compatibility"
tab
- activate
the compatibility mode for "Windows 95 " or " Windows 98/Me"
-
confirm and close the menu with "OK"
- after that you have to start the game by double clicking on the startup.exe directly
- if you want to use a shortcut you have to do the same with each shortcut icon (rightclick, choose compatibility mode, etc.)
Thanks to Ta-mir for this tip!
Voodoo graphics cards:
Ballance doesn´t run on most Voodoo cards.
